During Refugee Welcome Week Netherlands, young people who are refugees or new to the Netherlands take the stage themselves. As makers, curators, hosts, and storytellers, they bring people together through art, film, music, food, and conversation. Together with Stichting Mano, a film selection has been curated that deepens the themes of Refugee Welcome Week Netherlands. You will be watching the films Dreamers and A World Not Ours.

Dreamers (2025), Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor

In Dreamers, we follow Isio, a Nigerian migrant in a detention center in the United Kingdom. As her freedom is threatened, she finds strength in the bond with another woman. Together, they begin to imagine a future outside the gates. The film is the feature film debut of Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor, an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer whose work often centers on voices that are less frequently heard.

A World Not Ours (2012), Mahdi Fleifel

16:00 to 17:30

A World Not Ours shows three generations in the Ein el-Helweh camp in South Lebanon. Through family films, archival footage, and recordings spanning more than twenty years, the film becomes a way to hold on to friendship, family, and memories. Director Mahdi Fleifel himself grew up partly in Ein el-Helweh; his own history therefore runs through the film.
