Maspalomas
Maspalomas is a heartwarming film by directors Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi about growing older and staying true to yourself. What do you do when you unexpectedly have to return to the life you fled years ago?
Vicente, an older gay man, has to return from Maspalomas on Gran Canaria to San Sebastián. He needs care and his daughter does not know what to do with him. Forced by necessity, he trades the nightclub for a nursing home. The contrast with the sun-drenched freedom and openness of Maspalomas could hardly be greater. Once in the nursing home, he therefore decides to go back into the closet. But is that really necessary? Maspalomas grew into a sensation in Spain. Actor José Ramón Soroiz was awarded Best Actor twice: after the world premiere at the Filmfestival van San Sebastián, and at the Goya's, the Spanish Oscars.
