Marisol

Marisol (1930-2016) became famous overnight in the sixties with her colourful wooden sculptures. The Venezuelan-American artist was friends with Andy Warhol and appeared on the covers of international magazines. Despite her impressive oeuvre, Marisol was forgotten by the general public. Until now. "The first girl artist with glamour" - Andy Warhol Visitors are taken along humorous wooden figures, mysterious underwater creatures and intimate drawings. Marisol was her own favourite model: she incorporated her face into her artworks as a way to explore who she could be – as an artist and as a woman in society. Behind her attractive and humorous work lies a sharp message about the role of women, social norms and dealing with the climate.
