Maandelijkse Suitcase Economy Brunch #10 bij Kunstinstituut Melly

The Monthly Suitcase Economy Brunch is a testing ground by artist Riet Wijnen in which relationships, translations, economic models, transformation, and time are explored through food. Each brunch brings together a preservation or fermentation process with ingredients that have traveled from one place to another in a suitcase. For the latest edition, Riet is collaborating with Tumelo Mtimkhulu and his mother, Linah N Mtimkulu. Central to the event is ting ya mabele, a fermented sorghum porridge, served with sechu sa mohatla wa kgomo (stewed oxtail), mokopu (pumpkin), and morogo (leafy green). Additionally, the menu features: • Apole (apple) & bitirut (red beet) salad • Linaoa tsa KOO (butter beans), sehwete (carrot) & li'pepper (bell pepper) with chutney • Gemere, fermented ginger beer with pineapple. The meal brings together ingredients and dishes from previous editions, including morogo, fermented sorghum, pumpkin, oxtail, and blatjang. New work by Ima-Abasi Okon and Riet Wijnen is also being launched: an edible ointment made with fermented chili peppers.
