Kunst op Plein: Hotel Europe
In 1997, artist Piet Vlugt mailed 715 letters to cities across Europe, addressed to 'H. Quick, Hotel Europe'. The returned envelopes together form a map of Europe — and via the global mailbox on the square, you can send your own postcard out into the world.
About Hotel Europe
In 1997, Harald Vlugt (Netherlands, 1957) sent 715 letters from his studio to cities across Europe, addressed to: H. Vlugt, Hotel Europe.
A massive logistical operation: the envelopes traveled a total of more than one million kilometers and passed unnoticed through the hands of some 25,000 postal workers. A large portion was returned with the message: 'Undeliverable, address unknown'. The returned envelopes collectively form a green map of Europe. But there are also grey areas: envelopes that never came back and which Vlugt is still waiting for.
Hotel Europe (1997) is about traveling without moving and about the stories that emerge along the way. It is a travelogue, without a traveler. Everyone can discover their own meaning in the map.

Fenix presents Hotel Europe op Plein as an interactive artwork during the summer holidays.
Next to the four tables of the artwork stands a special table: one that functions as a world mailbox. Vlugt sent his postcards to countries throughout Europe. This world mailbox has 197 compartments, one for each country.
Buy a card and a Fenix stamp at the kiosk. Pull up a chair, write a summer greeting, and send it out into the world.
A helpful message from a recipient: 'As this envelope has a map of Mull on it with Fionnphort marked in red, I'd try from there! On the other hand, 231 is Sue McLean's caravan. Puzzle! Ask Sue! <3 Anna Maria'

Fenix, Studio De Zolder and restaurant Mies debut at Museumnacht010
Museumnacht010 takes place on Saturday 7 March, transforming Rotterdam into one big art landscape. This edition welcomes a number of new venues such as the new art museum Fenix on Katendrecht, the interdisciplinary Studio De Zolder in Middelland, and the restaurant Mies, located in a Bauhaus icon.
