Novi dives into the hidden stories of her family. Through old photo albums and letters, she travels back in time to the colonial past of Nederland and Indonesië. A moving performance for anyone who has ever had questions about 'the past'.
“Why do I feel so angry?” Sometimes it feels like there is a storm living in Novi’s chest. But nobody knows why. One day, Novi angrily flees to the attic. A place full of dust and a scent from a very long time ago. Suddenly, two mysterious little figures appear; they fight, roar, and flee when they see Novi. Each into a different photo album. And Novi? She jumps in after them.
She goes on a magical journey back in time to the shared colonial past of the Netherlands and Indonesia. This is where her family’s history lies.
Along the way, Novi discovers that the anger and storm she feels might be older than she is. That emotions travel too. From heart to heart, generation to generation. To understand that, it sometimes starts with looking, listening, and feeling.
