Imago
When Déni Pitsaev inherits an undeveloped piece of land in Georgia in the beautiful documentary Imago, his mother's dream is crystal clear: this is where he must build his permanent home. Déni, who grew up in France and still lives in Paris, has doubts about this possible future. Could this become his home?
Déni travels to Georgia to see the place with his own eyes. Many Chechens live in this area, including his mother's family, who once fled the war just like she did. The close-knit community, which immediately embraces him with love, shows him what his home could look like in that place. At the same time, the question everyone wants to ask him lingers: when is Déni finally going to get married? With stunning images and a subtle narrative style, we follow his search for his roots, his family, and himself, where the silences in conversations sometimes tell more than what is said. Pitsaev impressively and intelligently weaves together universal themes such as restrictive gender roles, the indelible scars of war, and the endless search for where you truly belong. A deeply moving and personal masterpiece. Rightfully awarded both the prestigious prize for Best Documentary and the Jury Prize (Semaine de la Critique) at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
