A tragedy in New York
In 1911, a fire broke out in a clothing workshop in New York, killing 146 young women. Most of the victims were immigrants who could not find a way out of the burning building.
Oratorio and youth choir
Composer Julia Wolfe transformed this news report in 2018 into the multimedia oratorio Fire in my mouth . A large youth choir performs the voices of the young women. The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra performs this poignant piece.
