Eivind Aarset 4tet
On his new album 'Strange Hands', Eivind Aarset combines jazz, ambient, post-rock, and electronica into a cinematic, compelling sound full of driving rhythms and surprising melodies.
When Eivind Aarset releases a new album, something special is to be expected. In March 2026 , Strange Hands was released on Bugge Wesseltoft's Jazzland label. On this album, Aarset's regular quartet sounds sharper and more unpredictable than ever. The music returns to the core: fewer embellishments, more direct expressiveness, yet retaining the mysterious, cinematic character so typical of Aarset's sound.
The Norwegian guitarist, born in 1961, began his career in heavy metal, with Jimi Hendrix as a major role model. Later, he discovered the possibilities of jazz and worked with artists such as Ray Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jan Garbarek, Nils Petter Molvær, and Bugge Wesseltoft.
Aarset does not limit himself to a single genre. He effortlessly incorporates influences from ambient, post-rock, drum 'n' bass, and noise. Atmospheric guitar soundscapes and electronics grow into rhythmically driving passages, in which compelling melodies emerge at unexpected moments. After ten years, Eivind Aarset returns to our stage with his quartet.
