DoelenEnsemble Buddha

DoelenEnsemble is committed to music that is rarely heard. This program centers on Buddha by Julius Eastman, a composition from 1984 and one of his later works. The piece belongs to the series in which Eastman works with open notation and free parameters. Within clear frameworks, the musicians collectively determine the course of the music. The ensemble sits in a circle and plays without a conductor, allowing mutual attention and direct interaction to shape the performance.

Additionally, Palimpsest by Simeon ten Holt is performed. With the same starting points in every performance, but always a different outcome, the music unfolds from hushed passages to richly layered soundscapes. This creates a concentrated listening experience in which time and repetition play a central role.
