De Grote Oorlog Hotel Modern / Arthur Sauer
1914-1918, the First World War. From the trenches, millions of soldiers wrote letters to their loved ones. Millions died in the fire and the mud, millions came home with stories that could not be told or heard. Just like after every war.
In this live animation film, the performers try to make the experiences of the soldiers tangible. The audience sees how the landscapes of the Western Front are recreated in miniature with sawdust, potting soil, rusty nails and parsley as trees. The result is filmed and projected life-size. Composer Arthur Sauer provides a live soundtrack to the images.
De Grote Oorlog premiered in 2001 in Rotterdam and was performed all over the world in the years that followed, including in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Adelaide and Los Angeles, and won many awards.

Rotterdam Coffee Fest celebrates Rotterdam’s coffee culture
Rotterdam Coffee Fest returns from 5 to 8 November for its second edition. It will feature a more extensive programme, *De Doelen* as a new venue, and four days of coffee culture across Rotterdam.
