Codarts Orkestfestival

Codarts presents the Orchestra Festival at De Doelen in Rotterdam. Students and professional musicians perform classical music, world music, and pop music in various venues. From wind and string instruments to a stage production and a pop orchestra: the festival offers an evening full of diverse musical styles.

An evening with orchestral music in Rotterdam

During the Codarts Orchestra Festival at De Doelen in Rotterdam, students and professional musicians perform together in various ensembles. The festival showcases a wide range of musical styles: from classical wind and string music to world music from the historic Silk Road and contemporary pop. You can plan your evening as you please, and you can move from venue to venue.

Classical music and world music

The Codarts Wind Band performs together with the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, conducted by Erik van de Kolk . The programme includes works by R. Strauss and J. Mackey , among others, and a world premiere by M. Bodensteiner . The Codarts String Orchestra, conducted by Gordan Nikolić , performs works by Debussy , Clara Schumann and Shostakovich .

Silk Road and scenic production

The Global Musics Silk Road Ensemble takes you on a journey through musical traditions from the Eastern Mediterranean, Balkan, and Anatolian regions. The Codarts Vocal Department presents a staged production featuring selections from Offenbach 's works, including Fortunio and Croquefer .

Pop orchestra as a closing act

The Codarts Pop Orchestra will close the evening in the Main Hall. Under the direction of Ronald Kool, the orchestra will perform 16 original songs written by students from the pop music program. The orchestra has previously performed at venues such as the Nieuwe Luxor Theater and the Main Hall of the Concertgebouw.
