City organist Adriaan Hoek Arrangements for organ
Adriaan Hoek presents a rich and varied programme in which the Doelen organ beautifully brings to life the sound world of composers such as Schubert, Franck, Mendelssohn and Brahms.
The evening opens with Schubert's Sonata in A – a work full of lyrical simplicity and subdued beauty. This is followed by the tranquil Allegretto from Franck's Symphony in D, which in this arrangement is given a new layering. Mendelssohn's Prelude and Fugue in E combines the clear structure of the Baroque with the emotional richness of the Romantic.
The programme, with arrangements specially made for the Doelen organ, ends grandly with Brahms' Haydn variations – a monumental work in which power and refinement come together. A feast for lovers of the organ and the romantic repertoire.
