Chöd Retraite
Discover the profound practice of Chöd (གཅོད་), a powerful method for letting go of inner obstacles and attachments.
Discover the profound practice of Chöd (གཅོད་), a powerful method for letting go of inner obstacles and attachments.
Based on the teachings of the Tibetan yogini Machig Labdrön, Chöd helps you cut through fear, ignorance, and self-clinging.
This retreat weekend, guided by Lama Jigmé Namgyal, offers an accessible introduction for practitioners with a basic understanding of Buddhism. Participants will learn the fundamental techniques and philosophy of Chöd as preparation for more advanced practice.
Over the course of eight days, Lama Jigmé will teach the practice of Chöd. The Tibetan word "Chöd" literally means "to cut through." It is an excellent method for breaking through obstacles, such as our own disturbing emotions—also known as inner enemies. These eight days will allow you to experience it for yourself and gain a thorough understanding of the teachings.
Lama Jigmé teaches from a very short, unbroken, and authentic lineage of transmission. These teachings encompass the essence of the Mahayana and Sutrayana traditions and can provide the practitioner with direct insight into and experience of both relative and ultimate truth. This is explained in the Buddha’s Heart Sutra (Prajnaparamita), which states: "Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form. Form is nothing other than emptiness, and emptiness is nothing other than form."
The study week is open to anyone with sufficient knowledge of the basic principles of Buddhism. Because Chöd is a very profound and powerful practice, it is not suitable for people with serious mental health challenges or emotional instability. Please take personal responsibility in this regard. If in doubt, contact us.
