Belly of the Whale
The exhibition 'Belly of the Whale' invites you to reflect on transformation in our current world full of crises. 17 artists show their work. You are taken on a journey inward, where you get the chance to rethink yourself and your relationship to the world.
About Belly of the Whale
The exhibition Belly of the Whale presents artworks and objects that follow the change in meaning and the reception of art over the years. The exhibition asks how an artwork is connected to a historical moment. And how the manner and moment of exhibiting influence the meaning.
The exhibition in particular
The exhibition shows works by, among others, Advancing American Art (1946-47), Minia Biabiany, Broomberg & Chanarin, Tania Bruguera, Mariana Castillo Deball, Jean-Martin Charcot, Paul Ekman, Hamza Halloubi, International Academy of Art Palestine (IAAP), Emily Jacir, Käthe Kollwitz, Susanne Kriemann, Britta Marakatt-Labba, Pratchaya Phinthong, Jeremy Shaw, Amie Siegel, Charles Thomson Rees Wilson and Van Abbemuseum.
The curators are Natasha Hoare and Adam Kleinman. You will also see work by neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, who tried to prove hysteria as a medical condition using photographs. His research forms the basis for facial recognition techniques and has raised doubts about the objectivity of photography.
