BANG - Hanneke van der Paardt
You are nineteen, just moved into your own place, just started a new study programme, and suddenly you are afraid. In this monologue, Hanneke van der Paardt pulls her life apart and then attempts to put the whole mess back together again. BANG is about those bizarre years when you have just left your parents' home, but haven't really arrived anywhere else yet. About how fear can grab us hard during those years and about what on earth you are supposed to do then.
At first you hope it’s just an MDMA comedown, but then... then you stay scared. Scared of mirrors, scared of eyes, scared of people on the street shouting things. You get the fright of your life when you hear a loud noise. If you see a semi-scary crime movie and a shot is fired. You check whether you, too, think there is a meaning behind the numbers and letters on car license plates. Or whether the voices you hear through the open window are actually voices in your head.
At 25, you sit down and try to grasp the past few years. Are you actually doing a bit better, or are you just going to keep hanging on in this endless fear until you die?
With BANG, van der Paardt won the BNG-Theaterprijs 2025, the award for emerging theatre talent in the Netherlands.
