Bach - Hohe Messe

Powerful - Compelling - Timeless.

The High Mass in B minor by Johann Sebastian Bach is an impressive and extensive work, composed between 1747 and 1749. The work is praised for its grandeur and the complexity of its musical structure. It is not only a religious composition, but also a work that shows Bach's craftsmanship.

It is unknown for whom Bach wrote this work, and he never performed it himself. He died shortly after its completion. Today, the work is considered one of the most important works in Western music history.

Toonkunst Rotterdam brings the Hohe Messe together with orchestra Collegium Delft, with whom we previously worked together on Bach's St. Matthew Passion and Mendelssohn's Elias. The whole is conducted by Maria van Nieukerken.
