A conversation with Ernest van der Kwast about her photo series 'Leaving and Waving'
In the exhibition space Alle Richtingen, they discuss family, memories, and the passage of time. Together, they explore how an everyday farewell ritual evolved into a remarkable photo series and how photography can help in coping with absence, loss, and farewell.
About Deanna Dikeman
Deanna Dikeman is an American photographer from Kansas City. Since the mid-1980s, she has been documenting her family and daily life in the American Midwest. Her photobook Leaving and Waving received the Prix Nadar in 2021, and in 2023 she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. The photo series is on display in the exhibition Alle Richtingen at Fenix.
About Ernest van der Kwast
Ernest van der Kwast is a writer, presenter, interviewer, and program maker. He wrote, among others, Mama Tandoori and the international bestseller The Ice Makers . In addition, he speaks with writers and artists from the Netherlands and abroad about their work and inspiration.
