Redouan Yagoub brings the International Chase Tag Championship to Rotterdam

On 5 and 6 December, the WCT™8 EMEA Championship will take place at the Topsportcentrum Rotterdam. Chase Tag is a professional sport that combines classic tag with freerunning and obstacle courses. Rotterdam native Redouan Yagoub won the world title in the Open Division with Rooftop Kings in June. Now, in collaboration with World Chase Tag, he is bringing the international championship to Rotterdam.

Redouan Yagoub wants to give the home crowd the chance to discover first-hand the sport through which he and his team reached the very top of the world. “When we became world champions, my first thought was of the people back home who have supported us from the very beginning,” says Redouan. “Now we can showcase this sport up close in Rotterdam. I hope there are children in the stands who’ll think: I want to give this a go too. That would be just as wonderful for me as winning that world title.”

In World Chase Tag, two teams compete against each other in an arena full of obstacles: the Quad™. In each chase, one athlete from each team takes to the course. One tries to tag the other, whilst the other tries to escape. The athletes jump over obstacles, dive under bars and change direction at lightning speed. Anyone who manages to stay out of the pursuer’s grasp for twenty seconds earns a point for their team. The team with the most escape points wins the match. The aim is simple to understand, but at this level it demands explosive speed, technique and tactical insight. A clever route or a sudden movement can make the difference between a tag and a point. From the stands, the crowd follows every chase as the seconds tick away.

With the WCT™8 EMEA Championship, Redouan is bringing an international championship for teams from Europe, the Middle East and Africa to Rotterdam. The competition gets underway on Saturday 5 December, featuring pursuit races and knockout rounds. Sunday 6 December will be all about the finals and the battle for the championship title.
