Workshop - Witches vs. the Patriarchy: Writing with the Fates ENG
A creative writing workshop exploring tasseomancy: the ancient art of reading coffee grounds. Learn to read symbols, discover your fortune and turn what you find into stories with writer Busra Erkara.
The centuries-old practice of reading coffee grounds, known as tasseomancy, is part Rorschach test, part divination and part storytelling. Practised across a geography stretching from the Arab Peninsula, Iran and Turkey to the Balkans, coffee reading has long been woven into everyday life. It is also a feminist happening, rich with ancient symbolism, intuition and stories passed between generations. In this creative writing workshop, writer and editor Busra Erkara invites you to let the coffee grounds decide where your story goes. You’ll learn how to read a coffee cup, explore key symbols and their meanings, and discover what your fortune might reveal about the future. Then, you’ll use what appears in your cup as a prompt for your own writing. Part of Witches vs. the Patriarchy, a workshop series exploring how witchcraft and writing can strengthen one another, and perhaps help us overthrow the patriarchy along the way.
