Het Steiger is a Roman Catholic parish church and adjacent Dominican monastery in the city center of Rotterdam.
About the church
The Sint Domincus Church - Het Steiger Church is located on the Hang in the center of Rotterdam. The reconstruction monument from 1960, designed by Chris Knol of Kraaijvanger Architects, has been a national monument since 2013.
The Dominicans have been based in the center of Rotterdam since the fourteenth century. The Dominicus Church from 1837, located between Hoogstraat and Steiger, was destroyed during the bombardment. As part of the Widergutmachung, Germany donated a new church, a monastery and some office buildings. Across the water, the new church at Het Steiger was inaugurated on May 14, 1960 – 20 years after the bombing.
