Rotterdam gets new club with 24-hour licence with Export

For about four years, the promoters have been at it. But with crowdfunding as the final step before opening, Export is scheduled to open in November. Export is the newest underground nightclub in the basement of the Keilepand. A place for loud music, creative energy and the community that keeps the night alive.

Export will be a 24-hour licensed club bringing together established artists and organisations with new talent from the city. The organisation will be helped in its renovation by the community. From the WhatsApp community set up by the organisation with more than 100 volunteers, around five to 10 people come to help every week. On 1 September, Export launched a crowdfunding to raise the required budget for DJ gear, speakers and furnishings.

A breath of fresh air in Rotterdam

Export is not opting for the safe route. The line-ups will be as diverse and unpredictable as the city itself. The soft, funky interior breaks from the concrete walls so the space is not for just one kind of nocturnal animal. The lighting plan includes custom-made lamps by local Rotterdam lighting artists.

"Nightlife in Rotterdam has taken so many hits recently. With a new club, we hope to create a place where the Rotterdam scene can come together again, where the nightlife experience is #1, where the sound is good," say the founders.
