Rollerdam, Wednesday Night Skate rolls through the city in July and August

Jeroen Veenstra

After last year's great success, the Rollerdam, Wednesday Night Skate will take place again this summer. Thousands of skaters will once again roll festively through the city every Wednesday night accompanied by music trucks, lights and a good dose of energy. There are six editions, from 23 July to 27 August. On the first three nights (23 and 30 July and 6 August), the parade starts and ends at Museumpark, the break held at Brutus. The last three editions (13, 20 and 27 August), the group departs from De Gele Kanarie on the Binnenrotte and the Kralingse Pas is the place to take a breather.

On Thursday 17 July, there is already the Roller Rave: CSC Festival Edition, a festive roller disco in festival atmosphere in collaboration with CSC. CSC will also provide the DJs during the skate rides, they will be on Xtra Materieel BV's music truck leading the parade. In the middle will also be a vehicle of Xtra Materieel BV where Rotterdam legends will spin.

Free roller skating workshops

Rollerdam, Wednesday Night Skate offers a number of free roller-skating courses in advance for novice skaters or participants who want to improve their basic technique, in cooperation with the Municipality of Rotterdam in various city districts. In addition, on the Monday evenings after each edition, a free roller-skating lesson is offered for those who were asked to leave the event because they lacked experience and safety was compromised. Skateland Rotterdam has roller skates for hire.

Traffic measures?

The organisation is still looking hard for traffic controllers who would like to help out for a volunteer fee, reimbursement for the traffic controller course a T-shirt and a lot of fun. You can apply at rollerdam@skateland.nl.
