Lots of activities to experience FutureLand this summer

Sun, sea and beach are not only fun, but also informative. This summer, the programme of FutureLand, the information centre about the port of Rotterdam, is again packed with activities. In this article, you will discover what's on offer.

Routes along highlights

Want to see Europe's most modern port with your own eyes? Then take a boat trip or tour of the highlights of Maasvlakte 2 from FutureLand. Or step aboard the FutureLand Experience, a day trip organised by Spido by comfortable coach from the centre of Rotterdam to FutureLand. Here you will experience 100 years of port history in over 40 kilometres, as well as the port of the future.

Bike tour

Seeing Maasvlakte 2 can also be done by bike. This summer, visitors to FutureLand will take a 30-kilometre cycling tour by their own bikes. The information officer will take participants on a pass along the hotspots of the modern port area. Here you will enjoy views of the North Sea and port activities. Prefer to cycle on your own? Pick up the free cycle route at FutureLand.

Exhibition

Fancy something a little quieter? Then visit the temporary exhibition 'The digital port'. With a tablet in hand, augmented reality reveals the four ways the port of Rotterdam is getting smarter. There is also a free half-hour introduction twice a week covering all the highlights of Maasvlakte 2 and the port of Rotterdam.

For the kids

There is also plenty for children to do in FutureLand throughout the summer. During free creative workshops, they paint stones from the Maasvlakte beach, or a canvas. For slightly older children, there is a treasure hunt and a Kidsquiz, which playfully introduces them to the port and challenges such as infrastructure, digitalisation and energy transition. Need a breath of fresh air? Go out on your own and learn all about the animals and businesses in the area. The free Maasvlakte beach scavenger hunt is available in FutureLand. Furthermore, you can go on a fossil expedition on various dates. Accompanied by fossil expert Walter Langendoen, you will search the Maasvlakte beach for remains of ancient life. Check the agenda as the number of places is limited.

New: summer evening cruises

This summer, the FutureLand Ferry also sets sail in the evening! In June, July and August, you will take special tours in the early evening, when the sun slowly begins to set and the light is already getting warmer. Along the way, an expert guide enthusiastically tells you about Rotterdam's most modern port area. The cruise will take you through the newest container terminals on Maasvlakte 2 to the Europa Port on the first Maasvlakte. During the cruise, various exclusive snacks and drinks are available at the bar. Click here for more information and booking.
