Woyzeck: In de TBS Theater Utrecht / Theater Buiten de Muren / Casper Vandeputte
In Woyzeck: In de TBS, professional actors, TBS patients and staff explore the world-famous, unfinished play by Georg Büchner together. A soldier who slowly loses his grip on reality. An affair. A knife. A murder.
Woyzeck is one of the first texts in world literature to depict the crime of insanity and to show that a perpetrator can be not only guilty, but also a victim.
Büchner left behind 27 loose scenes that can be performed in any order. In Woyzeck: In de TBS, by director Casper Vandeputte, the story is created live and can end differently every night. A group of employees from the Van der Hoeven Kliniek and forensic psychiatric patients participate on stage. Actors Vincent van der Valk and Marieke Giebels move among them, direct, act and interrupt.
What happens in the mind of someone who loses their grip on life and becomes increasingly violent, and what does that do to bystanders and loved ones? If a perpetrator also turns out to be a victim, how far are we ourselves really removed from violence? And why do we keep watching, what fascinates us?
In Woyzeck: In de TBS we seek out the edge of madness, the step towards violence. Every night, it ultimately revolves around one question, which is important for every actor, every forensic psychiatric patient and every visitor: can you become another person?
