Wild Horse Nine

Wild Horse Nine is set in the early 1970s, shortly before the coup in Chile that overthrew Salvador Allende, and follows two eccentric CIA agents with a history of interference in international events. Chris is an aging, eccentric officer responsible for escorting Lee, his foul-mouthed protégé, who mainly wants to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Conspiracies are everywhere, paranoia sets in, and their mutual trust is put to the ultimate test by their superior, MJ. Along the way, the two cross paths with two rebellious young women, causing Chris to reflect on his life and deeds as a spy and threatening to derail the mission. What began as a typical case of foreign interference spirals completely out of control. Wild Horse Nine is a darkly comedic story in which McDonagh's signature sharp dialogue subtly comments on the contemporary political climate. In addition to the lead roles of John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, the film features supporting roles by Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey, and Tom Waits, among others. John Malkovich won the Best Actor award at the 83rd Venice Film Festival in September.
