Wienaamik Solid Ground Movement
What does your name tell about who you are? Five dancers search for their roots and heritage.
What does it mean to carry a name that carries a past with it? In WIENAAMIK, five dancers explore their identity and the history behind their surname.
Their names were often imposed on their ancestors and carry traces of the history of slavery. From that reality, they go in search of their origins and what that name means to them today.
Choreographer Henry Tawiah guides the dancers in bringing their personal stories to life. Through dance and research into family history, an encounter between past and present emerges on stage.
