Why we decided to get a dog studio sibling / Timo & Helène

Why we decided to get a dog is an eccentric collection of serenades to chosen family: sung odes to the friends with whom you want to raise a dog, for whom you would carry a child, with whom you do want to celebrate Christmas or want to marry platonically. Two chosen siblings (Timo Tembuyser & Hélène Vrijdag) dream out loud about a queer counterpart to the traditional suburban dream: what does such a life look like? How do you set up a family outside of the hetero-infrastructure? And what does a love song sound like without a romantic motive?

Why we decided to get a dog is a vocal performance for two voices, two electric string instruments and two passenger lifts. Drawing on interviews with queer families and on Timo and Hélène’s own friendship, they perform an experimental, critical and visual deconstruction of a serenade concert.
