What does freedom mean if it has ever been taken away from you?
On Friday 27 June we invite you to an interactive lecture by Gordon Sana about Keti Koti, the commemoration of the abolition of slavery. Using personal stories, historical images and an interactive conversation method, Gordon takes you into a story that not only sheds light on the past, but also invites conversation, reflection and connection.
This lecture touches, connects and opens up the conversation, even for those who know little about this.
Gordon Sana is a cultural entrepreneur, connector and board member of NiNsee (National Institute for Dutch Slavery Past and Heritage). He is rooted in the Maroon tradition, in which community building and caring for each other are not a choice, but a way of life. Growing up between different cultural worlds, he developed a keen insight into social dynamics and the power of connection.
As an advisor and initiator, he works with community experts to strengthen communities. He is committed to more inclusion and representation within organizations. His work focuses on cultural resilience, emancipation and keeping collective memory alive.
What can we learn from the past today? How do we create space for shared stories in a city like Rotterdam? And how do we take collective responsibility for memory and healing?
