Van Die Mensen - Grab 'n Go première

Humorous battle for satisfaction.

In this whirlwind called life, only a few people are content with their fixed place. One of them is Pamela. She wants to spend the rest of her life in her quiet utopia: the Grab-n-Go, the little shop at a gas station. Here she can endlessly stock shelves and mop floors, encouraged by singing merchandise.

Now her paradise is threatened with disruption by LED screens and self-checkout tills. Pamela refuses to accept that there is no longer a place for her due to this radical renewal. Until her last day at work, when the hip biker chick Pim manages to convince Pamela to go along with the rebranding after all. The play follows two people with different perspectives on change. One clings hopelessly to what she knows, the other is never in the same place long enough to settle down.

Grab-n-Go stands up for the person who prefers to keep their distance from the ever-rushing world. Is it still possible to stand still these days? This music theatre performance is a humorous battle for contentment, in which the initially peaceful inner world of Pamela and her singing shop products (a three-piece folk band) escalates into a manic techno invasion that ends in the ashes of the Grab-n-Go.

About the makers Van Die Mensen (formerly Oopsie Daisy), winners of the Werkplaats Walhalla Pitch 2025 Audience Award, is a young theatre collective consisting of Andrea Vass, Paulien Foest, and Sasha Kurensky. In 2025, they debuted with the production Broadway Baby at the Café Theater Festival, where they also won the audience award in Rotterdam. Van Die Mensen is characterized by a humorous and energetic style, with which they manage to flesh out absurd characters. In doing so, they bring the humanity of people who fall outside the norm to the stage.
