The Swimmer
Dive into the story of Ned Merrill, a man who decides to swim home via the swimming pools of his wealthy neighbors. This fascinating film evokes memories and reveals the complex layers of nostalgia and the American Dream.
With Burt Lancaster as a nostalgic swimmer; perhaps his best role. A summer day in an affluent suburb of Connecticut. Sipping cocktails at a friend's pool party, Ned, a fit and tanned middle-aged man, notices that there is a swimming pool in every adjacent garden. He spontaneously comes up with the plan to 'swim home' via the river of pools. Each pool evokes memories of the past. A fascinating, underrated film based on a short story by John Cheever.
