The Space Architect
Architect Constance Adams has dedicated her career to one of the most radical questions in architecture: how can people live beyond Earth? She left her conventional practice to work with NASA and develop space interiors and concepts for settlements on the Moon and Mars.
A Life Dedicated to Designing Beyond Earth
Architect Constance Adams dedicated her career to the question of how people can live beyond Earth. After studying at Harvard and Yale, she left her conventional practice to work with NASA. She developed interiors for spacecraft and concepts for settlements on the Moon and Mars. The film, shot four days before her passing, shows Adams reflecting on a life dedicated to designing for extreme conditions. In these environments, every spatial decision is influenced by limited resources, closed systems, and the well-being of the inhabitants.
Sustainability and the Climate Crisis
Constance Adams not only looks at the future of space exploration but also suggests how this knowledge can be applied to architecture on Earth. She offers new ways to address sustainability and the climate crisis. Through Adams's words, an image emerges of architecture as a field of adaptation. Designing for distant worlds can thus also serve our home planet.
