The Smithsonics
There is a light that never goes out. Apparently, especially not at SoundVille. On June 1, 2024, The Smithsonics sold out our venue; on Saturday, January 30, 2027, they return to the Oldegaarde. A second chance for those who were too late back then, and for those who were there, above all an excellent excuse to stand at the front again.
The Smithsonics don't do wigs, plastic flowers, or karaoke with a guitar. They hit The Smiths where it counts: Johnny Marr's clear, ringing guitars, driving bass lines, nervous drums, and lyrics in which romance, gallows humor, and self-pity constantly fight for the same bar stool. With Maurissey behind the microphone and Jacob, Rob, and Bob in the roles of Marr, Rourke, and Joyce, it sounds familiar, idiosyncratic, and above all, completely live.
Expect There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, How Soon Is Now?, This Charming Man, Bigmouth Strikes Again, and Hand in Glove, but also the less obvious work that the true connoisseur has been waiting for. No wax museum and no nostalgia under a glass dome. Just four musicians who understand why The Smiths, more than forty years later, still simultaneously comfort, irritate, and make you dance irresistibly.
