The Nether Theater Oostpol / Daria Bukvić
Jeroen Spitzenberger and Gaite Jansen play the lead roles in this thrilling story about human contact in the digital age, directed by Daria Bukvić (known from, among others, The Almighty Sometimes and ALETTA de musical).
In the near future, The Nether exists: a virtual world without borders. People adopt alternative identities here and live out fantasies that are unspeakable in real life. Without judgment. Without consequences.
When a young detective starts an investigation into this progressive AI environment, she soon wonders how innocent The Nether actually is. Because if nothing is real, does that mean there is no morality?
As the boundary between fantasy and reality increasingly blurs, the characters move on a slippery slope between self-control and derailment. Does virtually living out our deepest desires bring us freedom? Or does this virtual world have unexpected consequences?
The Nether is a gripping thriller that does not tell us what to think, but forces us to feel where our boundaries lie.
