Talk of the Town
An evening about Rotterdam - the city, the culture, the architecture - from the idiosyncratic perspective of artist Gyz La Rivière.
He effortlessly combines the past and the future, popular culture and urban development. Pieter Kuster (OMI) will be in conversation with him about Post 76 Rotterdam: 50 years of city history in a nutshell, using film clips, photos, quotes, music and, of course, his artworks. Take a seat at the bar and let yourself be surprised by bartenders Gyz and Pieter. Gyz La Rivière (Rotterdam, 1976) makes films, installations, graphic work, video art, publications and readymades: he combines it all with typical ‘Gyzians’ philosophy and humour. His projects are often extensive pieces of art, in which research and a passion for collecting are the driving forces. What most of La Rivière’s recent works have in common is that they want to tell the viewer about the human element that we are collectively losing. According to La Rivière, this dystopia naturally also has its own beauty.
