Stuntwoman! Frascati Producties / Ika Schwander
The shadow world of the stuntwoman in the spotlight and a tribute to the unique and at the same time interchangeable body. She jumps out of the plane. She crashes the car. She breaks her bones. And as soon as the camera stops rolling, her name is erased.
In Stuntwoman!, Ika Schwander and Lizzy Deacon dive into the shadow world of the stuntwoman: the body that embodies danger, but must remain invisible. The double who breaks the fall, but never gets the credit. The body from which the impossible is demanded – and which is then airbrushed away.
Extremely precise stunt work and vulnerable moments alternate. For this, Ika collaborates with identical acrobat twin sisters Clementine and Grace Tonkin Wells (Guinness World Records holders for foot to foot trapeze hang).
What drives a woman to seek out risk? Who is allowed to be the embodiment of danger, and who is ultimately allowed to stand in the spotlight? What do we lose when the body that actually falls is replaced by the body that receives the flowers? When does authenticity give way to simulation?
