The Alexander Chamber Choir performs Herman Finkers ' St. George's Mass under the direction of conductor Mirjam IJsseldijk . This is a premiere in Rotterdam. The program features love and joie de vivre as its central theme, captured in five centuries of Dutch music.

From wedding ceremony to modern arrangement

Finkers originally wrote the mass for his own wedding celebration. Later, he expanded it with a new movement and a new instrumental setting. For this concert, accordionist Ellen Zijm created a special arrangement, which was received with great enthusiasm by Finkers .

A contemporary lineup

In the arrangement, a modern lineup of accordion, saxophone, and double bass takes the place of the original classical ensemble. As a result, the Mass acquires a contemporary and surprising character, without abandoning the tradition of the classical Latin Mass.

Love, longing and joy

The program combines Finkers ' wedding mass with medieval love songs and modern drinking songs. The lyrics are understandable, the emotions recognizable. The mix of playfulness, humor, and musical depth makes this concert accessible to a broad audience.
