Schilderijententoonstelling Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest
A musical cabinet of wonders full of bizarre fantasies and breathtaking vistas.
A scary gnome, talking skulls with glowing eye sockets, a wooden hut running away on chicken legs: Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is a cabinet of curiosities in which you can wander with your mouth agape. Bizarre fantasies and breathtaking vistas alternate. The poetic highlight is The Old Castle , full of longing for a distant past: the same nostalgia with which Tchaikovsky wrote his delightful Rococo Variations .
