Join us on a journey along the Rotte and discover what lies beneath our feet together with artist Lara Almarcegui and geologist Michiel van der Meulen. This guided tour is part of the exhibition Landscape Crafting at OMI, which explores our relationship with 'sand', and of Waterworks, a residency program at Buitenplaats Brienenoord.

Changing landscapes

For this tour, Almarcegui is collaborating with sand expert Michiel van der Meulen (TNO, Geological Institute of the Netherlands) for an interdisciplinary approach to the transformation of our landscape. He devised this tour along the Rotte – starting at the intersection with the new A16 motorway – because of the very interesting stratification found there. Every day, enormous quantities of natural resources are moved in the Netherlands, the most common of which is sand. Through the lens of sand, the story is told of the continuous change in the Dutch landscape. The Rotte is one of these landscapes that is constantly in motion.
