Why do you have to pay extra in some hotels if you are sleeping in a room alone?! Why do singles have to click 'unmarried' on official documents, as if their status is only temporary? Why do we still grow up with the idea that we have to find an 'other half', one soulmate who makes us 'complete'? Our society is clearly set up for the romantic ideal of the monogamous couple with a family as the endgame. And that while, according to estimates, half of households will consist of singles by 2050. Half! Do you have any idea how many millions of people that is? That is... in any case, too many people to still be labelled as falling 'outside the norm'.

In All by myself, Romy questions the obviousness and social pressure of that norm and explores what it means to be a single woman of 35 – given that age is, of course, completely 'past its sell-by date'.
