Richard III Het Nationale Theater / Noël Fischer
Richard wants total power. He is a master of manipulation and wraps you around his finger in a subtle way. With lies, intrigue and murders, he clears everyone out of the way who stands between him and power. You see Rick Paul van Mulligen as King Richard III: the biggest bastard Shakespeare ever wrote.
The bitter revenge of an outsider.
Richard feels humiliated and excluded by society. Driven by anger, he hatches a plan to take revenge. With fine words and charm, he deceives everyone; from the people to his own family. Richard is prepared to pay the ultimate price, but will he be able to hold onto power once he finally possesses it?
Now is the time of monsters
Director Noël Fischer: “I read a quote from the thirties: ‘The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.’ I see that reflected in Shakespeare's Richard III, but also in the lust for power, desire for control, and narcissistic games of autocratic politicians.”
Writer Peer Wittenbols is creating a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III for Noël Fischer. You will see Gustav Borreman, Alex Hendrickx, Tessa Jonge Poerink, Livia Lamers, Rick Paul van Mulligen, Esther Scheldwacht, Betty Schuurman, Jip Smit, Mante Tausk and Vincent van Woerkom.
