Re-Score – The Burial of Kojo door Peter Somuah ft. Latanya Alberto & MiDi KwaKwa
The film The Burial of Kojo will have a new live score by Peter Somuah, Latanya Alberto and MiDi KwaKwa, in which jazz, soul and West African music come together.
During this edition of Black Soil Film Festival, The Burial of Kojo (2018), the feature film debut of Ghanaian filmmaker and musician Blitz Bazawule, is given a new musical dimension. Ghanaian trumpeter and composer Peter Somuah has developed a live score especially for this screening, together with vocalists Latanya Alberto and MiDi KwaKwa. About the film The film follows young Esi, who goes in search of her father after he disappears during a gold mine expedition. Family drama, dreams and spirituality come together in a magical-realist narrative, carried by the landscapes and powerful visual language of Ghana. In this Live Cinema Re-Score, film and live music enter into a direct dialogue. Jazz, soul, gospel, highlife and West African rhythms form a new musical interpretation of the emotional and spiritual world of the film. Somuah brings his Ghanaian musical background and contemporary jazz together with the warm, poetic neo-soul of Latanya Alberto and the Afro-inspired alternative r&b of MiDi KwaKwa. Black Soil Live Cinema is a collaboration between Black Soil Film Festival, House of Knowledge and Architects in Music (AIM) and brings together film, musical curation and live performance in a unique audiovisual experience.
