Queer & the City #1: Exploring multicultural and migrant identities within the queer community.
What comes first: being a person of color, of mixed race, a migrant, or being queer? Sharvin Ramjan and his guests discuss what happens when migration, mixed heritage, and queerness converge.
What comes first: being a person of color, of mixed race, a migrant, or being queer? During the first edition of Queer & the City, writer and host Sharvin Ramjan explores with his guests what happens when mixed heritage, migration, and queerness converge. How do you navigate environments that expect you to choose only one part of your identity? And what happens when you don't fit neatly into one of the available boxes? Living at these intersections isn't just about difficulties. It can also create different forms of joy, connection, and community. Finding people who truly understand and celebrating queerness from multicultural and non-Western perspectives can be incredibly liberating. Queer & the City creates space for these different experiences to coexist. Through conversations and performances, we explore the queer community in all its complexity, without asking anyone to reduce themselves to a single identity. The evening concludes with a Q&A, followed by drinks and time to continue the conversation together. Speakers, artists, and guests will be announced soon.
