Première Na Ruinas ^{in de Ruïnes}

From a dilapidated dream house, an old man looks back on his life. Born during the 1947 famine in Cape Verde, he later leaves for Europe in search of a future greater than the island he leaves behind. He crosses oceans, lives fast, builds a life in Rotterdam, and starts a family. Until love breaks and old wounds resurface. Some baggage you never get rid of.

In Na Ruinas (In the Ruins), a son takes a close look at that life. He tries to understand what shaped his father and how that carries over into the home. Where conversations fall silent and words fail, he searches through music for what was never spoken. Slowly, what his father carries becomes visible: the war, the silence, and a love that does not always reveal itself.

With two musicians by his side, Gery Mendes slips into the skin of his father, from young soldier to man between two worlds. The result is a poignant, personal, and cinematically theatrical concert, full of traditional Cape Verdean music and hip-hop.

Na Ruinas is about identity, family, and what connects and drives generations apart. An ode to fathers and sons, and to the traces a past can leave, long after it is gone.
