An afternoon full of reflection, culture and encounters around Keti Koti, the annual commemoration of the abolition of slavery. Under the theme “Celebrate Freedom, Remember the Struggle” stories, traditions and activism come together.
During this commemorative event, we will reflect on the past and celebrate the power of freedom. The afternoon will open with a compelling documentary, followed by an in-depth panel discussion led by Peggy Bouva. At the table: journalist Joan de Windt, activist Mitchell Esajas and spoken word artist Glodi. After a short break, you can participate in one of the two workshops. Discover the stories behind the Surinamese angisa headscarf in a demonstration by Tailors & Wearers. Or delve into Sranantongo with Niven Williams, who will shed light on the language, its nuances and meaning within the diaspora. An afternoon that encourages dialogue and awareness – for everyone who finds commemoration and celebration important.
