Peper & Zuur?! Howard Komproe en Noni Kooiman
In Peper & Zuur?!, comedian Howard Komproe and chef Noni Kooiman tell the history of Suriname through its cuisine. What influence does that history have on the country, the people, and the kitchen? And where do roti, bara, bakkeljauw, and moksi meti come from?
Peper & Zuur?! is a performance that is as tasty as it is informative. Howard and Noni take you on a journey, through time and across the world. There is live cooking and laughter. Stories are told and, of course, in the end, everyone eats together.
The food industry has discovered that there is a lot of money to be made and labels everything Surinamese, often unnecessarily and inappropriately. Komproe and Kooiman think it is time to put a stop to this, but they also embrace the fresh breeze that the young generation is blowing through the rather conservative Surinamese culinary culture.
About Howard & Noni
Howard Komproe is a stand-up comedian and voice actor. During the coronavirus pandemic, Howard turned to the culinary arts and started the platform Komproeven.
Noni Kooiman worked as a chef in various restaurants from the age of seventeen. In addition, she wrote cookbooks and made the culinary travel series Paramaribo pepers for the VPRO.
