A mosaic narrative about the Arab revolt against British colonialism and Zionist settlements in 1936 Palestine. You follow, among others, a female journalist who writes under a male name, a villager who gets involved in the resistance, and several British officials. After Annemarie Jacir's historical epic was already received with a fifteen-minute standing ovation at the Toronto festival, the film grew into one of the audience favorites during its Dutch premiere at IFFR. And rightly so. This is a film that you feel deep in your bones: a reminder of a piece of history that has remained unexamined for far too long. By weaving different stories together, Jacir sketches an urgent portrait of resilience, hope, and humanity with _Palestine 36_.
