OVUM Cecilia Moisio Company
OVUM is a dance concert about the menopause and the ageing female body. The performance weaves live music, dance, cabaret and social commentary into an intense theatrical experience, in which the woman appears as a transforming force, balancing between light and shadow, the mythical and the earthly.
OVUM marks Cecilia’s return to the stage: supported by two multidisciplinary performers, she moves between mythological archetypes, physical expression and raw humour in an intense theatrical trip.
OVUM follows the audience favourite PINK PORTAL (2022) and continues the feminist research where this ode to the vulva ended — this time from the perspective of an ageing woman and her inner world. The performance fits within the ongoing line in Cecilia’s work, in which she questions and redefines images of womanhood. Previous works include Juxtapose (the “perfect woman”, 2013), Mum’s The Word and the film SHE/HER (the mother-daughter relationship, 2015), OMGYES (the female orgasm, 2016) and I Can See Myself Through Your Eyes (criticism and female self-image, 2018).
OVUM draws inspiration from Finnish mythological stories about women and from Carl Jung’s ideas about female archetypes. The performance confronts taboos surrounding womanhood, motherhood and ageing, and presents menopause not as an end, but as a gateway: a transition to new clarity, agency and a regained voice.
