Oersoep NITE / Rebekka Nilsson
What if we create a passion again? Not to repeat the past, but as a ritual for the present. Oersoep is an interdisciplinary theatre performance with live music that makes us reflect on the world we live in. Inspired by the novel of the same name by Bregje Hofstede, Oersoep tells a personal story about motherhood, the body and ecological crisis. About carrying, giving birth to and caring for new life. About hope and at the same time the grief for who or what is lost.
What would you do, if you brought new life into a dying world? After the birth, that question sets her in motion. Away from the safety of her home, into the world, in search of connection. She moves through experiences of love, sex, loss and numbness.
Inspired by the Matthäus-Passion, Oersoep becomes a musical experience in which birth and death coincide. The performance asks the question: what are we willing to sacrifice today in an exhausted world?
With live music by K.O. Brass (the members previously formed the permanent brass section of The Kyteman Orchestra) and the actors of NITE, a contemporary requiem and a celebration are created: a moment to mourn together, to slow down and to greet life anew.
Oersoep brings birth and mourning together. Where we slow down, listen and come together. Here, music brings the ritual back to life.
A passion for now. To mourn together. And to celebrate life together.
