New Jazz Underground is among the most exciting new names in jazz. The New York trio of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros, and TJ Reddick was described by Christian McBride during the Newport Jazz Festival 2025 as “one of the hottest new groups in all of jazz right now”.
What began as jam sessions between three Juilliard students grew into a close-knit musical unit during the lockdown. From busking on street corners and in parks to viral living room performances that reached millions of viewers, New Jazz Underground built their reputation entirely on their own merits.
Their sound moves effortlessly between hard bop, hip hop, and everything in between. With tracks like MF Doom Suite, Harlem to Havana, and cook/swing/work/relax, they honor the tradition of jazz while simultaneously pushing it in a fresh direction. Energetic, adventurous, and deeply rooted in groove.
The band has previously played on stages such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, and international festivals like Newport, Monterey, and Montreal. After recent shows in Shanghai and Hong Kong, they continue their rise with a stop in Rotterdam.
